Arogyam herbal Tonic Recipe
Tools and Equipment
• Gloves
• Cheese grater
• Cutting board
• Chef knife
• Large bowl
• Large glass jars with lids
• Cheesecloth and colander
• Plate (that will fit in your strainer)
• Funnel
• Bottles
Ingredients
All ingredients must be fresh, and should preferably be organic
• 1 part fresh chopped organic garlic
• 1 part fresh chopped organic white onion
• 1 part fresh grated ginger root
• 1 part fresh grated horseradish root
• 1 part fresh chopped hot peppers (cayenne, habanero, serrano, jalapeño, etc.)
• Organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar(1 gallon recommended)
Instructions
1. Prepare all of your ingredients (chop, grate, etc.).
2. Fill a glass jar about ¾ full with equal parts of the chopped and grated ingredients. You can use big gallon glass jars or smaller quart-sized mason jars like I used.
3. Fill your jar(s) to the top with your raw apple cider vinegar. Make sure the ingredients are completely covered by the apple cider vinegar.
4. Close the jar(s) and shake vigorously to mix everything together.

5. Store the jar(s) in a dark place and be sure to shake them once a day for at least 2 weeks. Mine sat in the cabinet for about 2 months. (You can also place them in a paper bag on your counter.)
6. Place a colander over a bowl and line the colander with cheesecloth.

7. Place the mixture in the colander and use a plate to press the moisture out of the mixture into the bowl.

8. You can wrap the cheesecloth around the remaining mixture to squeeze the rest of the moisture out of it.

9. Pour the liquid through a funnel into amber bottles(I used 8 oz bottles, but you can use any size you like). I put a secondary filter in the funnel to make sure I didn’t miss any chunks. I ended up with enough master tonic for 18, 8-oz bottles!

Using the Tonic
First, I’m going to warn you – This Tonic isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s spicy and it’s potent. You’ll probably feel a sense of shock when it hits your mouth, but the health benefits are worth it.
For daily immune boosting, drink 1-2 ounces, two or more times each day. Just put it in your mouth, swish around, gargle and swallow. Don’t dilute it with water or the effect won’t be as powerful.
If you’re fighting an infection, take the tonic 5-6 times per day. It can be used during pregnancy and it’s safe for children (use smaller doses) since food is completely non-toxic.
You can make a huge batch each time since it doesn’t need refrigeration and it will indefinitely without any special storage conditions.

# Especially when symptoms are acute, take care to replace

# Avoid alcohol in all forms, including that found in drugs and flavorings.

# If you are taking interferon for hepatitis B, make sure your doctor orders blood tests to monitor iron (ferritin) levels in your blood. Iron deficiency cuts the success rate of interferon treatment roughly in half. Your doctor will recommend treatments that can bring iron levels up to normal

MONSOON HEALTH TIPS FROM AYURVEDA

Varsha ritu (Rainy season) according to Ayurveda falls in the Uttarayan (northern solstice) and so the general body strength of people is week. One must follow a specific Diet and lifestyle schedule in rainy season as the chances of having digestive  problems is great during this season.

Ayurveda describes aggravation (vitiation) of Vata and accumulation of Pitta in Varsha ritu (Rainy season). This is the major cause of various diseases occurring during the rainy season. The food and lifestyle should thus be such which helps in balancing  Vata and Pitta. Use of certain spices definitely helps in boosting the digestive system. The cool showers are refreshing but they bring with them an increased susceptibility to a lot of diseases that are peculiar to the monsoon. Diseases that spread during the season are basically water borne and gastrointestinal.

Typhoid, diarrhea and jaundice are common and so are diseases like malaria, chikunguniya and dengue caused by mosquitoes. Also one comes across cases of viral attacks and coughs and colds.

From the point of view of Ayurveda, the beginning and end of the rainy season are troublesome periods. The initial days of the monsoon can cause problems for the body because of the sudden transition from dry heat to humid rain-soaked days.

During summer, the body weakens due to the heat and it especially affects the digestion. This is further weakened during the rains due to the vitiation of vata (one of the triads that govern physico-chemical and physiological activities of the body in a balanced state) and other doshas.

During monsoon, intestinal functions along with the digestive system become weak, and thus the body is highly susceptible to any kind of infection. Therefore always eat light food.

* Panchakola choorna (powder containing dried ginger, long pepper, root of long pepper, piper chava and leadwort), if used with food, is found to aid digestion.

In order to maintain normal digestive power, take old barley, wheat and old rice along with meat and/or vegetable soup. Use honey liberally in your diet. If the days are cooler due to heavy rains, take a diet that is sour, salty and oily. These serve as an effective antidote to the vitiation of vata during the rainy season.

Maximum infections during this season are water borne and hence do not drink water, which is not properly boiled and stored. Drinking water should be boiled at least for 10 minutes and properly filtered. It is best to drink warm water with the meals for easy digestion. Avoid consuming stale food. Remember to cook vegetables well and steam them properly to kill germs.

Diabetic patients need to take extra care of their feet during the monsoon season and should not walk barefoot since the soil almost turns into a reservoir for all types of germs during the rains. A sesame oil massage, especially for the feet is good for diabetics.

Asthmatic patients also need to take special care during monsoon and they should ensure that there is no accumulation and seepage of water in the vicinity of their residence since that will cause severe health problems. They should also ensure that fungus does not grow on wooden furniture and other articles like shoes and leather bags.

Living areas should be made mosquito-free. If water tends to stagnate in your locality or compound, sprinkle a few drops of kerosene or any vegetable oil on the water to check mosquito breeding.

Abstain from sleeping during the daytime; avoid drinking untreated water, and moving about in the sun after a spell of rain. Wear light and clean apparel and try to keep the rooms devoid of humidity.

Thus a little effort on your part coupled with care and caution can really help you enjoy this monsoon to its fullest !

AYURVEDIC APPROCH FOR ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

As per Ayurveda, every aspect of life is governed by the interplay of the three Doshas (body humors), Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Throughout an individual’s lifetime, each Dosha has its time of predominance. Kapha governs childhood; Pitta, maturity; and Vata, old age. Thus, during the latter years of life, there is a tendency towards Vata imbalances, such as memory loss, disorientation, paranoia, tremors, rigidity, cracked and quaking voice and stooped spine. The condition known as Alzheimer’s disease, According to Ayurveda Alzheimer’s disease is problem of old age where Vata Dosha is much aggravated.

  # What is Alzheimer’s Diseases ?  

 In Alzheimer’s disease, the Vata is severely provoked in the Majja Dhatu, the tissue layer which includes the central nervous system and all other tissues which are contained within bone cavity. The Vata dries and thus degenerates the brain. In addition, the Vata passes from the Majja Dhatu to the Mano Vaha Srotas, or “mind-carrying channels,” causing thought disorders such as paranoia and delusions as well as memory loss and confusion.  

 # What Causes Alzheimer’s Disease ?  

The causes of this severe Vata provocation within Majja Dhatu and Mano Vaha Srotas are both hereditary and acquired. Susceptible people are those who have a hereditary weakness of the Majja Dhatu. Once Vata is provoked, it follows the line of least resistance, moving into the weakest tissue layer, in this case, the Majja Dhatu.

Acquired causes are those which serve to aggravate the Vata Dosha sufficiently to bring about the onset of the disease in susceptible subjects. Unfortunately, our stressful, fast-paced, coffee-driven lifestyle provides abundant opportunities for such provocation. In addition, we are exposed to a number of environmental toxins which specifically weaken the Majja Dhatu, causing greatly increased susceptibility to Alzheimer’s disease. Aluminum, pesticides, herbicides, agent orange, lead, and other toxins have a specific action in weakening the Majja Dhatu Agni, the metabolic fire of the central nervous system.  

# Symptoms of Alzhemier :   The Alzheimer’s Association has developed the following list of warning signs that include common symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals who exhibit several of these symptoms should see a physician for a complete evaluation.

•Memory loss •Difficulty performing familiar tasks •Problems with language •Disorientation to time and place •Poor or decreased judgment •Problems with abstract thinking •Misplacing things •Changes in mood or behavior •Changes in personality •Loss of initiative   # Prognosis :   Alzheimer’s disease is invariably progressive. Patients usually don’t die directly from Alzheimer’s disease. They die because they have difficulty swallowing or walking and these changes make overwhelming infections, such as pneumonia, much more likely.Moreover, throughout much of the course of the illness, individuals maintain the capacity for giving and receiving love, sharing warm interpersonal relationships, and participating in a variety of meaningful activities with family and friends.   The reaction of a patient with Alzheimer’s disease to the illness and his or her capacity to cope with it also vary, and may depend on such factors as lifelong personality patterns and the nature and severity of stress in the immediate environment. Depression, severe uneasiness, paranoia, or delusions may accompany or result from the disease, but these conditions can often be improved by appropriate treatments. Although there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, treatments are available to alleviate many of the symptoms that cause suffering. Diet and Lifestyle are the main parts of the treatment for any of the diseases. In case of Alzheimer’s disease this becomes more important to follow the right diet and lifestyle. Here are the general recommendations for the diet and lifestyle along with some of the Yoga postures, which can change the course of the disease.  

 # Recommended Diet for Alzheimer :  

The dietary pattern that is associated with the least risk of developing Alzheimer’s is characterized by higher intakes of nuts, fish, tomatoes, poultry, cruciferous vegetables, fruits, salad dressing (oil and vinegar) and dark green leafy vegetables. It also consisted of a lower intake of red meat, organ meat.  •Your diet should include proper quantity of fresh butter and Ghee. •Proteins such as beans, nuts, eggs, fish and lean beef, pork and poultry are also important. •It is wise to try to maintain many of the patient’s eating patterns by serving familiar food at a routine time. Familiar recipes can be made healthier by eliminating encouraging more fruits and vegetables and switching refined flour products for whole grains. •Healthy snacks, such as apples, bananas and whole-grain crackers, should be available and in sight at all times. •Offer a couple of choices at mealtime when possible. This promotes a feeling of independence and may improve nutritional intake. . Drink Coconut Water more.  

# Recommended Lifestyle:  

•Drink, at bedtime, a cup of warm Mental Relaxant Tea •Encourage fluids throughout the day until a couple of hours before bedtime to lessen the possibility of dehydration, a common problem for Alzheimer’s patients. •Make mealtime relaxing and pleasant with enjoyable conversation or music the person prefers to hear. Avoid rushing the person to eat.  

 # Recommended Yoga Asanas for Alzheimer’s disease:  

 You want to assist both mind and body at a time- there cannot be anything better than the Yoga because this is the yoga alone which can assist both the body and mind. There are certain Yoga Asanas and Pranayams which have proven wonderful to get rid of the problems like Alzheimer’s disease. Before you start asking the preson with Alzheimer’s disease to start the Yoga exercise- keep in mind the following two things-  •Regular Yogasna and Pranayama can reduce agitation. It will also promote a feeling of well-being and help with sleep. •If the patient resists exercise, try to find ways to make it more interesting. Take a walk through a park or modify a type of physical activity he used to enjoy, such as throwing a soft football. Encourage playfulness by laughing or pointing out things in nature. Try dancing with person with Alzheimer’s disease as a way of promoting physical activity.   The most beneficial Yogasanas  for Alzheimer’s dieases are:

 •Paschimottanasana •Sukhasana •Savasana •Trataka •Surya Bhedi Pranayama •Nadi Shodhana Pranayama without retention •Shitali Pranayama

For modern science human body is more a mechanical system and this make them advanced in surgery department, but once it comes to the problems with the functioning of the body, modern medical science seems impractical and insufficient in that area. Alzheimer’s is one of the problems with the working of the body and same happens with the modern day medicine here. Alzheimer’s has been declared as a – irreversible and incurable condition by the modern day health system.   There are three main points about the treatment of the Alzheimer’s which modern science has. These are really very true for the management of the problem, this is very clear that these are the measures to manage the condition…not the solutions. Here are these-

 •Think prevention. It is very difficult to predict what a person with Alzheimer’s might do. Just because something has not yet occurred does not mean it should not be cause for concern. Even with the best-laid plans, accidents can happen. Therefore, checking the safety of your home will help you take control of some of the potential problems that may create hazardous situations.

•Adapt the environment. It is more effective to change the environment than to change most behaviors. You can make changes in an environment to decrease the hazards and stressors that accompany these behavioral and functional changes.

•Minimize danger. By minimizing danger, you can maximize independence. A safe environment can be a less restrictive environment where the person with Alzheimer’s disease can experience increased security and more mobility.  

# Ayurvedic Treatment for Alzheimer:-  

Ayurveda can reverse the problem? Complete lie! Ayurveda can cure the problem of the Alzheimer’s disease? This is also not very true, so first of all we request you to stay away from the false claims by some quacks that this condition can be cured completely by some magical herbal remedies. Ayurveda never claim this. Before we talk about the treatment let’s talk about few things about Alzheimer’s disease so that we can understand how Ayurveda can cure or help Alzheimer’s Disease-   This is a Vata disorder: Alzheimer’s is a Vata disorder and it is deeply associated with the decay of the body. Decay not only means- loss of cells/nutrients alone. Decay can be on any front, even psychological front too. So this is very important to manage the decay of the body. About decay we need to make it sure that we can delay the process of body aging, can neither reverse it nor cease this process of the aging. Modern science lacks this kind of understanding that is why they have only measures to manage the harm to life, not even the management of the condition.   Alzheimer’s is a process: Alzheimer’s is a process which keep on going and that is the reason it keeps on distorting with the time. We need to underline the different causes behind the disease. This is how we can slow down the process.   Alzheimer’s Disease needs more care: This not only about the medicines, we need to manage the proper diet and lifestyle both to control the aggression of the Alzheimer’s disease completely.  

On behalf of above said three points, there is a specific line of treatment, these points are indicating for three different steps for the Ayurvedic management of Alzheimer’s disease, here are these-  

1.Complete Nourishment: There are two variants of the treatment in Ayurveda (whole treatment can be subdivided into two categories); one is Aptarpana (treatment aimed to reduce) and second is Samptarpana (to nourish). So here in case of Alzheimer’s disease we need to do the Samtaprpana Treatment by using appropriate herbs, diet. Of course, we need to support the person with- happiness, zeal and care so that it will nourish one’s psychological part too.  

2.Removal of Causes: Dryness, roughness, instability and high mobility in body or mind are the main causes for Vata aggravation, so the second option is to combat all these causes by selecting the right kind of herbs, food supplements and diet for the purpose.  

3.Healthy Diet and Lifestyle: Solitude and avoidance brings more problems to everyone. These are not the answers and to keep the patient with some “place” where one will be cared in a mechanical way is not the solution of the problem. Solution is to maintain the warmth of the relations and to manage the diet in the same way. As per Ayurveda what we eat, reflects directly on our body and mind so it is important to manage the diet in right direction.

# Panchkarma Treatments For Alzheimer’s Disease :

Panchakarma treatments, rasayana therapies and diet regulations would all form part of the treatment. Ayurveda therapies like thalam,nasya, siro dhara and siro vasti are commonly prescribed for Alzheimer’s disease patients.

# Nasya Treatment :  Indicated nasyas for Alzheimer’s disease:   Brahmi (Bacopa monniera), ghee nasya — best if there is any pitta provocation

Vacha oil nasya (Acorus calamus) in sesame oil — best for severe vata provocation without any concurrent pitta provocation.   Nasya should not be used in very old, very frail or severely confused subjects, but only for those who are capable of understanding how to use the nasya correctly.  

 # Treatments for Alzheimer’s disease would include medicines to prevent degeneration and strengthening of the brain. Specific treatment for Alzheimer’s disease consists of the use of herbs which act upon the majja dhatu and mano vaha srotas. Chiefly, these are brahmi, vacha, jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi; ssp: grandiflorum), and Akar karabha (Anacyclus pyrethrum).Brahmi and aswagandha are the two main herbs used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.Brahmi, prevent the breakdown of neurotransmitter and also boost mental agility and the cognitive function.

Generally, the most useful remedy for Alzheimer’s disease is sarasvati churna, which is highly effective in presenting and enhancing memory and intellect. Sarasvati churna can be taken in doses of one quarter to one-half teaspoon twice daily after meals. In severe cases, it can be taken three times daily. In cases where there is a bleeding disorder, ulcer, or bleeding hemorrhoids, brahmi and jatamansi may be used, but vacha should be omitted completely, since it is contraindicated in bleeding disorder.

Akar karabha, which contains the active ingredient anacycline, is extremely important in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Unfortunately, it is currently unavailable outside India. It may be used as a medicated milk:   1/2 teaspoon Akar karabha  1/2 teaspoon Brahmi  I cup milk

 Boil together and drink at bedtime. It may also be used as a tea, using 1/2 teaspoon Akar karabha and 1/2 teaspoon shankapushpi (Evolvulus alsinoides). Steep 10 minutes in I cup boiling water and drink 2-3 times daily.   Despite the great usefulness of these general and specific measures in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, regularity and stability remain the most important factors in treating this condition. Meals and remedies must be given at regular times, treatments such as oil massage must be administered according to a fixed schedule, whilst familiar faces and familiar surroundings are also of great importance. Any conditions that are haphazard, irregular or unexpected will serve only to provoke the vata still more. To be useful at all, Ayurvedic treatment of this condition must be both regular and prolonged.

These are the main points what we care a lot while planning for the Ayurvedic management of the Alzheimer’s disease.

Remember one thing about Alzheimer’s disease- Sedation/Sleep is not the solution for the Alzheimer’s disease- this is the AWAKENING….let’s wake up, let’s walk towards complete health with Ayurveda !

ImageIn this list of fruits and vegetables, you can see how many health benefits of fruits and vegetables exist, and why you should eat as many as you can everyday. They are low in fat, calories, and sodium, have no cholesterol, and are high in fiber.

We are going to use the rainbow’s help to show the benefits of nature’s foods. Since the same chemical gives the food its color, typically the foods of that color have many of the same healthful components.

You will notice that some of the benefits and some of the colors overlap, so don’t be too stringent on getting one of each color. Just eat a great variety. Also, fruits and vegetables do not have just one vitamin, as we commonly believe. They are a mix of several vitamins and minerals.

NATURAL HEALING ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOOD AND HERBS

Joint Pains are caused by an overactive immune system, is especially scary, since the medical protocol can be quite intense (such as chemotherapy and other therapies which suppress the immune system). Because of this common medical treatment, we do not suggest any immune-enhancing herbs (such as Echinacea or Goldenseal). Instead, we recommend herbs to treat inflammation (the true root cause of all disease, in my humble opinion) as well as herbs which cleanse the blood and strengthen the body in general.

Alterative herbs help cleanse metabolic waste products and toxins from our body, and are a staple of herbal medicine. Alteratives work by supporting the natural cleansing functions of the kidneys, large intestines, increase blood flow and aid lymph drainage. Allowing these wastes and toxins to circulate throughout the body is a cause of inflammation and, when the body is attempting to stem inflammation, it’s not able to do much else in order to support our health. Here are a few herbs to help stem inflammation and aid the body in its detoxing efforts.

(Note: these herbs are helpful for anyone with illness—not just arthritis or other inflammatory conditions).

1. Burdock Root (Arctium lappa or Arcticum minus):

One of the greatest things you can do for pain, joint or otherwise, is increase your intake of essential fatty acids. Burdock contains fatty oils which (along with its sterols and tannins) contribute to burdock’s reputation as an anti-inflammatory. You can eat burdock root in stir-fries (very popular in Asian cuisine, by the way), make a decoction (To do so: chop 2 tablespoons of fresh burdock root—if you do not have the fresh root available you may use 2 teaspoons of dried root as an alternative. Add the root to the boiling water and allow to simmer for 10 minutes then turn off the heat. Strain and drink while still warm—3-4 cups a day is ideal), or take the herb in capsule form (follow dosage directions, but remember, these are for a 150lb adult—calculate the appropriate dose using your own weight).

2. Flax ( Linum usitatissimum):

Flaxseed is one of the best vegan sources of Omega-3 (ALA), which is so important to a strong immune system and for fighting inflammation (the vegan bit is important because animal fats often lead to inflammation in arthritis sufferers). Try to include two tablespoons of flaxseeds or flaxseed oil in your daily diet. Note: do not heat or cook seeds or oil. Also, if you suffer from a digestive condition such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), use the oil rather than the seeds—they could irritate your condition.

3. Turmeric (Curcuma longa):

Turmeric is an extremely effective anti-inflammatory herb, and thus an effective pain reliever. It contains at least two chemicals (curcumin and curcuminoids) which decrease inflammation (and are very much like the oft-prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs). Incidentally, this anti-inflammatory effect is also why turmeric is often recommended for treatment of cancer, cataracts and Alzheimer’s.

While you can totally add this spice to your daily diet, you will need to take turmeric in supplement form in order to experience the full medicinal benefits. When cooking, try adding black pepper or dried ginger to help activate turmeric. The herb can also be applied topically to relieve pain.

4. Nettles (Urtica dioica):

Nettles is an herb with mad-skills incredible for pretty much anything. Nettles are insanely good for you, containing protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, beta-carotene, along with vitamins A,C, D, and B complex, all in a form that is easy for the body to use.

Stinging nettle is a wicked herb for those with all types of arthritis and gout. Its anti-inflammatory amazing-ness combined with its minerals (boron, calcium, magnesium and silicon) ease pain while helping to build strong bones. While NSAIDs are often a necessary evil for most with arthritis, using nettle may help you to decrease the amount you need to take. (ALWAYS discuss herbal supplementation and prescription decreases with your physician).

Nettle leaf tea (a cup or more daily) relieves and prevents water retention and inflammation and nourishes the kidneys and adrenals.

A side note: many arthritis sufferers have found that striking the inflamed joint with a fresh cutting from a nettle plant helps relieve joint pain (the stinging part of the nettles draws blood to the joint, relieving pain and inflammation). I know this sounds like a nutty treatment, but the brave amongst you can give it a try.

5. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra):

Licorice acts much like your body’s own natural corticosteroids (which reduce inflammation). Licorice decreases free radicals at the site of inflammation and inhibits the enzyme production that’s involved in the inflammatory process. Glycyrrhizin is the component in licorice which blocks and relieves inflammation. It also supports the body’s release of cortisol (which suppresses the immune system, easing the pain and occurrence of arthritis), but it also inhibits some of the side effects of cortisol (such as adrenal fatigue and anxiety). Use in supplement form or as a tea.

* Please note: Licorice is not a good remedy for those with blood pressure issues. People who regularly take large amounts of licorice (20 grams/day or more) may experience serious side effects such as headache, high blood pressure, and heart problems. If you already have high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease, or low potassium (hypokalemia), please avoid the herb altogether.

# All in all, aside from herbal protocols, the best treatment for arthritis is a diet filled with fresh produce, essential fatty acids, and fiber (and reducing or eliminating foods that cause an inflammatory response such as fried foods, animal fats, dairy, and anything else which might cause an allergy sensitivity). As the old saying goes, “good things come in small packages.” And in the kitchen, seeds are no exception. These tiny wonders are a staple in a healthy pantry: nutrient-dense and packed with disease-fighting minerals and enzymes, they can be used in just about any recipe. Here are three favorites that are easy to incorporate into your everyday diet.  

1.  Flax  

What is it? Brown or golden, this seed comes from the flax plant and has a mild, delightfully nutty flavor.  

Why we love it: Flaxseed is rich in fiber (aids digestion and cardiovascular health) and omega-3 fatty acid (provides anti-inflammatory benefits, strengthens skin cells and is also great for cardiovascular health).  

Where to use it: When baking, replace ¼ cup of flour for ¼ cup of flaxseed; or, use as an egg substitute by mixing three tablespoons of flaxseed with ¼ cup of water, let sit for 15 minutes.  

Special Instructions: To get the most from flaxseed, grind it first. Either buy the seed whole and grind it yourself, or buy pre-ground flaxseed meal and keep refrigerated.  

2. Hemp  

 What is it? Hemp seeds come from the same Cannabis species as marijuana. However, they’re bred with much lower levels of the psychoactive chemical THC.  

Why we love it: Hemp seeds are loaded with digestible, vegan protein: Just two tablespoons have 24% of your daily requirement (impressive, huh?). It’s a high-quality protein, too, with a balance of all the essential amino acids. They’re also loaded with fiber (yay, digestion!) and packed with other nutrients, such as omega-3 and omega-6, vitamin e, the b vitamins and folic acid.  

Where to use it: Blend one tablespoon into your breakfast or post-workout smoothie for an extra hit of protein; or add a tablespoon on top of your salad for extra crunch.  

 Special Instructions: You can buy hemp seed whole or shelled (also called hulled). The shelled seeds taste milder and pack more nutrients; the whole seeds give you more crunch and fiber.  

 3. Chia  

What is it? The seed from the chia plant (yes, the same seed that grows Chia Pets) is native to South America, where ancient Aztec warriors used it before going into battle or running long distances on foot. Chia seeds are prized for their energy inducing properties.  

Why we love it: Contains 25% of your daily-recommended calcium. Omega 3, chia’s fiber, forms a gel that slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, binds it to toxins in the digestive system, and helps eliminate waste. Due to this high fiber content, chia seed absorbs ten times its weight in water, making it an excellent source of hydration. This also means a slower conversion of carbohydrates to sugars, resulting in greater stamina and endurance.  

Where to use it: In this DIY energy drink, called Chia Fresca, that’s favored by indigenous Mexican tribes: Mix one tablespoon of chia seeds with 1½ cups of water. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and a teaspoon of agave nectar.

PALITYA – PRE MATURE GREYING OF HAIR – HERBAL REMEDIES

Grey hair is a familiar sign of ageing but at times graying starts at young age. The age when greying starts depends on your genetic inheritance. Loss of hair color before the age of 35 is termed premature greying. In Ayurveda this is called Palitya. Persons with pitta type of constitution are prone to be affected by this ailment. A white hair is produced by the formation of numerous air spaces throughout the cells composing it.

Loss of hair color is due to a gradual decline in the production of a pigment- melanin the Bhrajaka Pitta in Ayurveda terminology , in the hair bulb. White hair has no pigment, and gray hair has some but not as much as a red, black or brown hair. Not all hairs respond in the same way or at the same time. So the graying process usually is gradual. The first grey hair usually appears near the temples the region of Shankha marma . Then the greyness spreads to the crown, and later to the back of the head.

# Rapid Graying : A black colour or the natural darkness of the hair cannot of itself suddenly turn white. Hairs grow for years with pigment inside them, and since they are ‘dead’ there is no process by which the melanin throughout a hair can be naturally destroyed rapidly (although it may be bleached by sunlight over many years). Apparent rapid greying may be due to a selective shedding of pigmented hair in a person who has some gray hairs, which are retained. Shedding of this kind usually takes several months, but can happen within a few days.

# CAUSES OF GREYING :

1. Stress and tension, Excessive passion, anger and psychic strain.which tightens the scalp and reduces circulation-Pitta aggravating life style. 2. Poor diet and imbalanced diet like – Excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcohol, meat, and fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour, and acidic foods – Pitta aggravating diet. 3. Hormonal changes due to pregnancy or menopause. 4. Strong Medication for acute disease prolonged medication for chronic disease. 5. Illness and/or allergies sinusitis (peenas) and allergic rhinitis 6. Over-use of dyes 7. Genetic tendencies

Ayurveda further explains that in order to get thick glossy hair, one must ensure the roots are firm and the scalp healthy. Just as drought and blazing heat destroys a lawn, heat is detrimental to hair. Too much sun can dry the hair and weaken the scalp and hair roots.

Sometimes hair loss results from “high heat” within the body, which can also damage hair roots. Excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcohol, meat, and fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour, and acidic foods disturbs Pitta in the body and can reduce the moisture and nutrients reaching the hair follicles and may lead to premature greying.Thus it is better to keep the brain and scalp cool, so even when washing hair, use cold or lukewarm water. Cold water is more efficient in removing soap, and helps to tone the scalp and refresh the nervous system.

# TREATMENT :

• A balanced diet rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially iron, sulphur, zinc, B-complex and Vitamin C, as well as essential fatty acid, is essential for healthy hair.

• Nutrients are key to healthy hair, but to be effective, they must reach the roots. Often tension in the scalp or fatty deposits block circulation, drying the oil glands of hair and literally starving the hair roots. Ayurveda recommends a simple oil application to the hair and head massage to relieve tension and improve circulation. A variety of herbal oils is used to nourish hair. The base oil in Ayurveda preparations is usually sesame or coconut oil. When oil is applied to the head, it nourishes, lubricates and strengthens the root and the skin of the scalp, and prevents hair loss and premature greying. It also improves circulation to the head, relaxing the muscles and nerve fibers.

•Panchkarma Therapies like Shirodhara, Takradhara, and Nasayam is used to treat chronic conditions of hair problems.

# Aromatherapy : The simplest method is to massage essential oils into your scalp every night. For dark hair, try rosemary, thyme or sage. For lighter hair, try german chamomile or lavender. Put 2-3 drops of the oil on your palms and rub into your scalp every night. This will help condition the skin of the scalp.

# Herbal Rinse  : Herbal rinses are another way to reverse gray hair.   ~ For dark hair, choose one or more:Rosemary ,Sage, Raspberry leaves,Parsley  Ivy Berries,Catnip,Black Tea, Black coffee 

~ For blond or light hair:Rsehips, red hibiscus,calendula,saffron,marigold,tumeric  mullei, privet, yellow broom   Choose some herbs from the lists above and put about 1/2 cup of dried herbs/flower/berries in 2 cups of water. Simmer for 30 minutes and then let it sit for another 2-3 hours. You will have a very strong “tea” for your hair. Strain out the vegetable matter and pour it on your hair after shampooing. Let it sit for several minutes and rinse out. Gradually you will notice your hair color changing.   ~ Potato : For dark hair, boil 1 unpeeled potato. Cool the water and massage the potato-water onto your scalp and into your hair with a cotton ball. Leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse out.

~ Grey hair tends to be coarse and wiry, owing to a lack of moisture.Apply a hair mask once a week. Olive oil, avocado or banana are excellent nourishing masks. Aloevera gel and Jaswand(Hibiscus gel) are also used for hair packs.

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD DIGESTION & METABOILSM TO STAY HEALTHY

There are lots of books, Magazines, Articles etc. are being published on regular basis regarding the Nutritious, healthy and organic food and being read and practiced by Millions of people all around the world on daily basis but still the chart is rising only in terms of various diseases . Why is this so?

The whole world is Obsessed by Healthy, Macrobiotic food and Nutritious food but still making a habit of implementing Multi vitamin pills, Pills for calcium, pills for iron , vitamin C etc. in their daily routine . Why?

If one is eating healthy Nutritious food then why they need additional chemical supplements?

People all around the globe are now a days more concerned about their physical condition and thus they are opting for more Nutritional, Healthy and Organic food, but the irony is that even after doing so many things and taking so many precautions the diseases are not controlling ,rather the problems like Gastritis , Liver diseases , GERD ,Peptic and Duodenal Ulcers , Improper metabolism etc are on the augment.

Many will say that this is all because of Stress, Adulteration of food, Pollutions and other such things which I do completely agree with but the genuine Underlining cause is still missing !

The statement that Eat Healthy ,organic and Nutritious food to remain Healthy but alone doing so will not solve the problem or make you healthy.

The Main Things which nobody teaches or speaks about is -

2.When to Eat? 

3.What all the things to follow to have proper Metabolism?

Yes, these are the most important things which we all must and should know otherwise even though you eat the nourishing food that is also not at all going to help you .

These things might seem to be very simple but these are very Important part for the process of Digestion and metabolism.

Unless and until one not have good and proper Metabolism nothing is going to help. If a person have proper metabolism then the Proper Digestion and assimilation from the gut will be there and then only he or she will not be deprived of Iron, Calcium or essential Minerals and Vitamins.

# Aahar Pachan in Ayurveda

The process of digestion is known as Aahar Pachan in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, any food (ahar) passes through the following: •Taste (Rasa) •Uses (Guna) •Potency (Veerya) •Metabolism resultant (vipak), and •Impact (prabhav)

It is said that rasas undertake gunas and is undertaken by veerya. This is suppressed by vipak and finally prabhav makes all of them resultant. Therefore, when we consume food, we must take into consideration the fact that our food should have calories needed as per age. Similarly calorie intake during pregnancy and lactation and disease or recuperation should also be considered. Calories must come in balanced form in terms of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Food is consumed as solids or semi-solids and liquids. Salads must be an important segment of food. Water other than juices and milk is needed and must be pure and adequate.

# Signs of improper metabolism :

# Primary Signs :Constipation,Mental dullness,Unexplained fatigue,Bad breath

# Secondary Signs :Gas,Bloating,Coated tongue,Body odor,Dull skin,High cholesterol , Degenerative diseases

The main aim of Ayurvedic Aahar Pachan or the digestion process should be such that human beings can achieve the ultimate goal of the science. i.e., maintaining health and treating disease.

# We observing the inhabitants all around the world in their regular routine. They don’t even have time to eat properly.Mostly they are trying to finish the job of eating while on their way to the office.Today’s fast lifestyle habits are :

1.Just grabbing a piece of Sandwich or burger, pizza or anything and eating while walking to their work or running while eating etc. 2.Watching television or reading newspapers and eating . 3.Not chewing the food properly. 4.Eating either too fast or too slow. 5.Mostly drinking plenty of water just before the food or immediately after the food . 6.Going to sleep immediately after the dinner. And so many other such things.

# Do you know how these habits are damaging your health?

~ If you do not chew your food properly, then the proper mixing of saliva with the food will not be there. The Saliva contains an Amylase called Ptyalin which does the partial digestion of carbohydrates in the mouth itself. So if you are not chewing the food properly then automatically the first stage of digestion is incomplete.

~  If you are more focused on reading or watching the television during your meal or not sitting properly and peacefully at one place then automatically the proper secretion of the gastric juices will not be there and again will hamper the process of digestion.

~ Drinking water just before the food will kill the appetite and also immediately after the food will hamper the process of digestion because as per Ayurveda water is Guru guna i.e. Heavy and thus should not be consumed immediately after the food .

~ Going to sleep immediately after the food will cause indigestion and can cause so many problems too.

Thus, rather than focusing more on Organic and Nutritional stuff , first try to learn the proper process of eating .Whatever you eat either nutritious or not , food or medicines everything has to be metabolize first and then only it will yield proper effect.

# What Ayurveda Says :

Each person has a certain combination of tridoshas, known as his or her prakruti, and this uniqueness of each individual is a concept which is fundamental in ayurveda. If you went to see an ayurvedic healer, they would probably draw up a specialised eating plan based on the various factors such as age and gender, the doshic tendencies that need to be balanced at a given time, the strength of the body tissues and the digestive fibres, and the level of ama (toxins) in the body. The place where a person lives and the season are also factors that affect dietary dos and don’ts. However, there are some universally applicable principles that are important to follow:

1. Include the six tastes at every main meal 2. Choose foods by balancing physical attributes 3. Choose foods that are sattvic 4. Opt for whole, fresh, in-season, local foods 5. Rotate menus and experiment with a variety of foods 6. Include spices and herbs in your daily diet

# Follow the rules and good health will surely come your way…not quite. In ayurveda, the way in which you eat is just as important as what. The theories are complex, but here are five introductory guidelines to aid good digestion:

1. Eat sitting down in a settled environment, and maintain a good posture. 2. Stimulate digestion before the meal :Weak digestive fire (agni) may lead to fatigue after eating, so before a full meal try eating a one-inch piece of fresh ginger with a few drops of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. This stimulates the saliva and the digestive enzymes, helping efficient digestion. 3. Avoid cold drinks at meals. 4.Do not skip breakfast and avoid heavy food at night. 5.As far as possible eat fresh food. 6. Make lunch the largest meal of the day. 7. Do not eat after 10p.m.

So Simply eating healthy food will not gives proper results. The way of eating the food is also very important.
